Ryan Acquires OrionAir Assets

The operation of the company grew steadily over the years. In l986, Ryan was operating at a $3,000,000 per month or $36,000,000 per year gross revenue level.  In (specific year) approximately one-half of the company's revenue was derived from its passenger operations, 35% from its freight operations, and 15% from the Fixed Base Operations.   Passenger operations were running at a gross revenue level of just under 70% load factor.

Ryan International Airlines freight operations maintained an unmatched completion record and a reliability record exceeding 98% on time within 15 minutes of scheduled arrival or departure.   This reliability has consistently been the highest in the Emery operation. Ryan International Airlines passenger operations maintained an on-time performance record, which was unparalleled in the charter market. Ryan's reliability has been cited more often than any other reason by charter customers for the selection of Ryan International Airlines.

PHH GROUP BUYS RYAN

On June 30, 1986, Ryan International was sold and merged with PHH Group, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange company located in Hunt Valley, Maryland. PHH, an acronym derived from the company's founders, Peterson, Howell and Heather, was a group of many companies joined together under the PHH parent company.   The air carrier was renamed PHH-Air Inc.

RE-PURCHASE OF FBO

On June 30, 1988, Ron Ryan the former Chairman of the Board and Chief Operating Officer of Ryan Aviation Corporation, re-purchased from PHH Group all the assets of the Fixed Base Operations at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. Ryan resumed operations involving fuel sales, aircraft maintenance, avionics, modifications, hangar and office rental. At the time of this re-purchase, a Kansas corporation was formed and again the name Ryan Aviation Corporation was used.

RE-PURCHASE PHH AIR, INC.

In January of 1989, Ron Ryan re-purchased PHH Air, Inc. which included the 121 Air Carrier Certificate; and that entity was renamed Ryan International Airlines.
Ryan Aviation Corporation (RAC)
and Ryan International Airlines (RIA) were two separate and distinct organizations, with RIA sharing the same corporate entity as the original RAC.

RYAN ACQUIRES ORION AIR ASSETS

Emery727-1_small.gif (8013 bytes)On December 21, 1989 Ryan International Airlines, Inc. signed an agreement to purchase a portion of the assets of Orion Lift Services. The parent company of Orion Lift Services was Primark Corporation. Purchased assets included a full inventory of parts to maintain and operate a fleet of Boeing 727s. Operations continue today in Dayton, Ohio, with headquarters being shifted from Raleigh, North Carolina to Wichita, Kansas. RIA added twenty-five additional Boeing 727s in the month of December 1989.

With this contract, RIA operated ten Boeing 727s and three McDonnell Douglas DC-9-15Fs for Emery Worldwide Airlines, a CF Company on a contract substantially similar to the contract under which it is operating twenty-three B-727s for the United States Postal Service. All of these aircraft fly with Ryan flight crews and are maintained by Ryan mechanics operating under the existing Ryan International Airlines Air Carrier Certificate.
