PASSENGER SERVICE:  An expanding business.

Ryan International B727-200During Ryan's initial three-year contract with Emery, Ryan was under a prohibition from operating freight aircraft for any other entity. Thus, the only opportunity for expansion rested in passenger operations.

In November of 1983, two Boeing 727-100 aircraft were acquired and converted to high-density passenger seating configuration for charter operations. A contract to operate these two aircraft was entered into with a major tour operator in Philadelphia. In January 1984, Ryan International Airlines began passenger charter operations.

The name "Ryan International " was very fitting because Ryan serviced as many international destinations as well as domestic destinations. Back then, the entire operation was generally referred to as  Ryan International Airlines, although owned 100% by Ron Ryan

Up until 1986 the airline was a d.b.a. of Ryan Aviation Corporation and when the assets of Ryan Aviation were sold in 1994, Ryan International remained the name of the airlines corporate structure.

Ryan added a third passenger aircraft in December 1984, a Boeing 727-200 aircraft, which seated 186 passengers.  In August 1985, Ryan sold its two passenger Boeing 727-100s and, in May 1986, the Boeing 727-200 aircraft was sold.
